 Brown Dawg Guitars (BDG) is located in Wendell, Massachusetts and is owned and operated by Mark Browning. He is a master craftsman who has spent 45 years designing custom timber frames, cabinets and furniture, eventually honing his skills towards building and repairing stringed instruments and crafting custom inlay.
While consecutively working as a machinist, pattern maker and carpenter, Mark began building his first instruments in the mid 1970's. He was fortunate enough to meet Michael Gurian, who at the time carried the largest inventory of instrument woods in North America and also happened to live just 10 miles from Mark's house. Mark also studied under luthier and inlay extraordinaire David Nichols, who is the owner of Custom Pearl Inlay in Malone, NY. David describes Mark as "a highly competent and meticulous repairman, delivering the highest customer satisfaction with unparalleled quality". In 2020, BDG"s main focus is to provide top quality, custom guitars inspired by the works of world renowned builder, Doug Irwin. Along with building the Irwin-style guitar, BDG provides "Jerrification" of guitars to help people get the "TONE" for which Jerry was so famous. He also continues to repair instruments in a timely fashion while specializing in custom inlay services. This all happens in his 1400 square foot facility tucked away in the hills of this little town in western Massachusetts.
